Society

WE ARE ALL PART OF THE SAME CREW IN OUR COMMITMENT TO SOCIETY

We have a social commitment to sport, health, culture and family.

DONATIONS TO FOOD BANKS

Distribution of foodstuffs to charitable structures for the neediest people.

The emergence of Covid-19 may have left our flights grounded, but it hasn't stopped us.

We have decided to donate our expiring stocks: over 3.7 million items of drinks and snacks will be donated to the Rome Food Bank Non-profit, the Food Bank Foundation in various Italian regions, Feeding South Florida, the Los Angeles Food Bank and Bancos de Alimentos de Mexico.

The criteria for choosing the organizations were that they had membership in the recognized network to which food banks refer, both nationally and internationally, details of their projects and the places to where donations should be made, and the presence of their headquarters in the relevant cities of the goods in stock.

The donation project enabled us to not only reduce wastage and cut down on waste production, but above all to put good products to good use.

ETHICAL FARES

We help take care of people traveling for health reasons.

If someone is traveling for health reasons for consultations or hospital visits at an Italian state-run hospital, they have the right to a reduced fare with Alitalia. Reductions also apply to any person accompanying a minor to a pediatric facility (the Gaslini, Bambino Gesù and Gemelli hospitals), with up to three escorts per patient. Patients and any escorts can receive a discount on the ticket price for both single and round trip flights (excluding airport taxes) for all domestic direct or stopover flights to the destination hospital, with the class of fare available at the time of the booking.

The following types are excluded from this promotion: light fares (only hand luggage) and promotional fares, as well as flight from/to Sardinia, which are subject to territorial continuity (reduced fares for certain categories of passengers).

If there is an alteration to the hospital appointment at any time during the trip, bookings can be changed free of charge. Refunds do not apply in the event of a cancellation.

THE PARTICIPATING HOSPITALS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

IEO of Milan, Cancer Institute of Milan, San Donato Hospital Group (21 structures), Humanitas Clinical Institute, Giannina Gaslini Institute of Genoa, Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital of Rome, Bio-medical Campus of Rome, Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic of Rome and IRCCS Ismett of Palermo.

BAMBINO GESÙ CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL

We are bringing Italian knowledge and scientific expertise to the world.

The Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital was founded 150 years ago. We have initiated a special partnership to celebrate the occasion of its 150th birthday. In addition to the possibility for patients and their escorts to enjoy ethical fares, we have also decided to support doctors and paramedics to reach health missions throughout the world, training local staff and sharing their scientific knowledge and research in the service of those in need.

We also set up a stand at the hospital's celebratory event dedicated to health workers and their families. The space featured a reproduction of a real cockpit, where one of our pilots held a special 'flying lesson' and explained the secrets of the onboard instruments to young children and teenagers. It was also an important occasion to take the first step in our project Bridging the Confidence Gap, which seeks to break down gender stereotypes by presenting successful female role models.

FILIPPIDE PROJECT

Sport is a right for everyone, and it is our duty to support it.

FILIPPIDE is a project that promotes sporting activity for people affected by mental disabilities, with the aim of breaking down differences in favor of integration and inclusion.

Our support of this project enabled us to accompany synchronized swimmers affected by Down Syndrome for the 27th Para Synchronized Swimming Festival in Kyoto. We also supported two synchronized swimming athletes, the multi medal-winners Giorgio Minisini and Arianna Sacripanti, at the 2019 World Series Super Final in Budapest.

The collaboration with the Filipidde Project also enabled us to participate with the association for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, connected to Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development in New York, and the organization of the CONI Convention in Rome, Prospects for Inclusive Sport.

SUSAN G. KOMEN

We support the work of Komen Italy in its fight against breast cancer both in Italy and throughout the world.

In 2019, to mark the 20th year of the Race for the Cure, we ran alongside women fighting cancer with an Alitalia team consisting of 100 members of staff, including pilots, flight attendants, technicians and ground staff.

This year too we will continue our contribution by supporting Komen remotely via the Virtual Race, with a heightened focus on issues of prevention.

SUPPORT FOR NGOS

We support NGOs and associations in partnership with their volunteers.

At our company spaces, we have hosted various associations that sold fair-trade products for celebrations such as Easter and Mothers' Day, giving our employees the chance to purchase a gift and make a donation in the process.

In 2020, due to the COVID-19 emergency we have supported these associations through online donations.

ALITALIA NON-PROFIT SOLIDARITY AREA

Alitalia Non-Profit Solidarity Area was created to support children in difficulty.

The Alitalia Non-Profit Solidarity Area is largely sustained by airline employees. After carrying out activities in various disadvantaged countries, it has supported projects in Italy since 2018. To realize Enzo's House (La casa di Enzo), a daycare center for disabled children in Fiumicino, for the Christmas season we designed a charity gift to sell on board our flights, with the entire sum donated to the project.

During the COVID-19 health emergency, we have continued to support non-profits by holding campaigns and through online sales.

The non-profit has also been proactive in dealing with the dramatic situation caused by Covid-19, joining the #nessunodeveesserelasciatosolo (#nooneshouldbeleftbehind) campaign and purchasing and distributing essential goods and food to help support the most vulnerable and needy people in the commune of Fiumicino.
